Noseclips

A big problem with kayaking is water up the nose. It is uncomfortable even for experienced kayakers, let alone those with previous water phobias. Trouble is the noseclip does come in for some flak. I have to admit that wearing a noseclip does look silly, and it makes you talk funny too.

There is a school of thought that says that noseclips can act as a crutch, setting yourself up for an expectation of a capsize. I don’t see noseclips as doing this. If water goes up the nose you can end up swallowing it. The nose is a sensitive area also. Given the amount of rubbish in our rivers, particularly at places like HPP, the noseclip for me at least is not just to stop water going up the nose. It is also to help prevent catching something nasty from the water. Wear your noseclip with pride!
